DIVERSITY, EQUITY AND INCLUSION (DE&I)
“The outer world is a reflection of the inner world. Other people’s perception of you is a reflection of them; your response to them is an awareness of you.”
- Roy T. Bennett
-
People are born & brought up in diverse cultures, and hence, in most probability tend to create unconscious biases that are based on race, ethnicity, gender, disability, sexual orientation, religion, and other factors without realizing this is being done.
-
Even progressive Leaders can have unconscious biases in which they feel more connected to others with similar values or ethnicities, for example. This can lead to premature judgments, favoritism or groupthink, according to Deloitte.
-
While in a personal setting, there is a personal accountability towards such biases, at an Organizational level, such biases curtail an Organization’s potential of becoming a truly global workplace that respects & appreciates Individuals for the job performance & value that they bring to the Organization. Further, business decisions that are based on biases are likely to yield a bad reputation to business, aside to depriving business from wisdom driven decisions that would benefit business at large in every sense.
-
Let’s decode “DE&I” here,
Diversity includes all the ways in which people differ, encompassing the different characteristics that make one individual or group different from another, including identity markers such as race, ethnicity, gender, disability, sexual orientation, religion, and more.
Equity is “the fair treatment, access, opportunity, and advancement for all people, while at the same time striving to identify and eliminate barriers that have prevented the full participation of some groups. Improving equity involves increasing justice and fairness within the procedures and processes of institutions or systems, as well as in their distribution of resources
Inclusion is “the act of creating environments in which any individual or group can be and feel welcomed, respected, supported, and valued to fully participate. An inclusive and welcoming climate embraces differences and offers respect in words and actions for all people.
-
Organizational Leaders advocating for the formation & implementation of diversity policies & awareness programs can lead to a wider acceptance of such policies. Further implementation of such initiatives can lead to higher awareness thereby helping to transform people's belief systems that may be rooted in unconscious or even conscious biases.
-
In this space, we create Policies that are centered around “Eliminating Conscious & Unconscious biases”. Our Awareness Training Programs primarily focus on change people’s perceptions through the elements of,
- Self-Awareness
- Upholding the dignity of Life
- Respecting individuality
- Empathy
- Self-Regulation
- Non-judgement
- Cultural Intelligence
-
Such programs assist in cultivating a culture that thrives on Respect, Acceptance, and Equal opportunity, which hugely benefits the Organization in not only implicit ways, but also in a tangible manner.
